The Equity in Education Coalition (EEC) is accepting proposals until May 27th, 2022, for its third annual DECOLONIZING EDUCATION CONFERENCE and you are invited to submit to present.
The conference takes place on November 7th – 9th, 2022, at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center, Tacoma WA.

Your proposal needs to come from an analysis of Community Centric Equity, Anti-Racism, and/or Decolonization. Get creative with your workshop, think outside the box!
We are seeking proposals that align with any of the six strands:
- Best practices for equitable learning environments:
- Topics may include racial equity, gender equity, cultural competence, disability services, support services for students with disabilities or other populations who have experienced historical & systemic oppression, the transition to postsecondary services.
- Increasing access to Educational Opportunities for Students of Color:
- Topics may include innovative programs, increasing student access, and success, engaging underrepresented populations, or dual/concurrent enrollment.
- Building a diverse workforce:
- Topics may include employer engagement, work-based learning, apprenticeship, badging, certifications, internships, competency-based education, credit for prior learning, teacher workforce, or transition to employment services for students with disabilities, also including teacher prep programs and paraeducators.
- Equitable leadership practices:
- Topics may include leading with equity in mind, leading institutional change, eliminating cultural biases in the workspace, or leading equitable environments including anti-racism, and decolonization.
- Public Policy—Supporting equity and education:
- Topics may include- local policies proven to close equity gaps; local, state, and/or national collaborations impacting educational equity policy; advocacy strategies; or understanding equity policies in ESSA, IDEA, WIOA, Perkins, TANF, or civil rights laws.
- Digital Equity/Literacy:
- Topics may include digital literacy curriculum, virtual learning practices, access to internet, access to telehealth, learning management systems, or online libraries.
Note to presenters: After our previous conference, we want to make sure workshops are focusing on more than just the “problem”. Please make sure your workshop is formatted to bring the “problem” to light, provide/work out solutions and time for action planning. We want attendees to understand the problem, be able to walk away with solutions or ideas of where to start, and implement action plans into their nonprofits/school buildings.
This conference is designed for educators, workforce development professionals, and advocates dedicated to anti-racism, removing systemic and institutional barriers to equitable opportunity in education and the workforce.
Proposals should be drafted to address the following audiences: K-12/postsecondary educators, career and technical education and workforce development professionals, researchers, administrators, counselors, data specialists, business representatives, and/or nonprofit staff.
All submissions must include the following information. All fields below MUST be included. Incomplete submissions will not be considered. The submission deadline is May 27th, 2022. Selected presenters will have two weeks to accept the invitation. Proposals should be submitted to email@example.com with “Conference Workshop Proposal 2022” as the subject line.

- 101, 201, 301, Please label which track you believe your workshop falls under. Think of these tracks as 101 being beginners to equity work, 201 being in the work, and 301 being a hard-hitting workshop that may take people out of their comfort zone. We want to provide tracks as a way for attendees to go to workshops at the level they feel they are at or would like to be.

Proposal Tips and Guidelines
Workshops are 90 minutes in length. Successful presenters:
- have firsthand experience with their topic and understand their audience.
- provide practical application-focused information.
- engage participants in an activity or hands-on learning.
- provide useful handouts for workshop attendees; and
- present effective strategies focused on one or more special populations or other underrepresented groups.
- align with the theme of the conference.
- explain the problem, provide solutions & time for action planning
Audiovisual Needs and Handouts
EEC will provide a projector and screen for the presentation. All other audiovisual needs must be provided by the presenter— including laptops, adapters, speakers, etc. An electronic copy of the presentations must be uploaded to a digital folder before the conference.
Up to TWO co-presenters will receive free registration for the conference and must cover all expenses associated with travel to and from the conference, lodging, and meals (other than those provided during the conference).
Presenters who choose to attend the conference only for their session will not be required to pay a registration fee.
Full conference registration includes meals for all three days, including keynotes and workshops.
